BUILDING NEWS: Renovation Update July 2014 - Drain, Drain Go Away
All that water from the artist's sinks has to go somewhere! The old horse barn never had a real drainage system so to bring the building into the 21st century an entirely new water and drainage line system was developed.
The hand dug trenches for the pipes carefully follow the water engineer's plans and are all pitched down towards the new septic area. Gravel is brought in to raise some sections of the pipe to ensure the proper grade down to the exit pipe.
The angle and pitch of the pipes is closely monitored using a level as work progresses. Who knew that a renovated building had so many components that would be hidden when the construction is finished?! All the work for these drain pipes will never be seen once the concrete floor is poured.
Once the drain pipes are in position, work begins to dig and build the remaining footings for where the porches used to be. The photo at right shows where the pottery studio will be. We can't wait for the floor to be finished!
